Calluses & Corns

What Are Calluses and Corns?

Calluses and corns are areas of thickened, hardened skin that develop as the body's natural response to repeated friction, pressure, or irritation. Calluses typically form on weight-bearing areas of the feet, such as the heels, balls of the feet, or sides of the toes, while corns are smaller, more concentrated areas of thick skin that often develop on or between the toes.

Calluses and corns are commonly caused by ill-fitting footwear, prolonged standing or walking, repetitive pressure, foot deformities, or activities that place repeated stress on specific areas of the feet. While they are generally not harmful, they can become uncomfortable, tender, or painful if they continue to thicken or are subjected to ongoing pressure and friction.

What to Do?

  • Soak your feet in warm water for 10–15 minutes.

  • Gently use a pumice stone or foot file to reduce thickened skin.

  • Apply a moisturizer daily to keep the skin soft.

  • Wear properly fitting shoes with enough room for your toes.

  • Use cushioned insoles or protective pads to reduce pressure and friction.

  • Keep your feet clean and dry.

  • Do not cut, shave, or pick at corns and calluses yourself.

  • Seek medical advice if they become painful, red, swollen, show signs of infection, keep returning, or if you have diabetes or poor circulation.

How We Can Help

At European Nail Lounge, we specialize in advanced dry Russian pedicure techniques designed to improve the appearance and comfort of calluses and corns, as well as dry and rough skin on the feet.

Unlike traditional pedicures that soak the feet in water, our pedicure is performed completely dry. When skin is softened through soaking, it can be more difficult to accurately see the boundaries between healthy skin and areas of thickened buildup, which may increase the risk of over-removal and irritation.

Working on dry skin allows our trained professionals to clearly identify areas affected by calluses and corns and carefully reduce only the necessary buildup while helping preserve the skin’s natural protective barrier.

For corns, we gently address localized areas of thickened skin caused by pressure and friction, focusing on smoothing and reducing discomfort from tight or rubbing footwear.

For calluses, we work more broadly over areas of repeated pressure, carefully refining thickened skin to improve comfort and appearance.

We use professional electric file techniques, precision tools, and specialized foot care products to leave the feet smoother, cleaner, and more comfortable while supporting healthier-looking skin.

This service focuses on cosmetic foot care, maintenance, and prevention and is not a medical treatment.
